Raytheon TWD - 90' Hexagon Dome
Crystal River, Fl. September 4, 2003
ASFI has announced it has received a contract from Raytheon's integrated Defense Systems unit to fabricate and install a 90-foot hexagon temporary weather dome.
The 18 foot tall dome will be used to provide weather protection during construction of a sea based test radar and sits atop Raytheon's drive platform and control system. The radar is part of the Department of Defense's active defense to counter intercontinental ballistic missiles in-flight before reaching targets in the US.
The dome will be constructed of high strength galvanized tubular steel frame covered in a high strength translucent PVC polyester fabric membrane. The structure is designed to withstand 130 mph sustained winds with peaks gusts up to 155 mph. Installation of the dome is expected to be completed in April 04.
